Focus on Healing through Movement and Dance
for the Breast Cancer Survivor

"The Lebed Method"

presented by the
Cancer Education and Supportive Care Programs
at Saint Agnes Medical Center

This is a six-week, therapeutic exercise program, offered under the supervision of a Certified Instructor in "The Lebed Method" of movement and exercise. This program was developed by a dance movement specialist and two physicians to assist in the rehabilitation of women who have undergone treatment for Breast Cancer. These treatments (including any type of breast surgery, lymph node dissection, radiation, chemotherapy) may lead to diminished energy, strength and/or ability to utilize the affected arm. "This program is designed to help women decrease depression, add to increase sexuality, and most importantly, be fun." In addition, this program provides an opportunity for Breast Cancer Survivors to network, increasing motivation and self-esteem, and enhancing their quality of life.

"Many patients go home from hospitals with few instructions in post-op rehabilitation. The Lebed exercises, set to soothing music, originate in simple ballet and jazz dance movements that can be done standing, sitting, or even lying in bed."

This "....program is designed for anyone to do; no particular talent or level of dance ability is required. Simple and basic, it enables participants to meet their goals and is recommended for ages 25 to 90."
